Understanding the Esports Landscape and Emerging Recruitment Pipeline
Esports is a billion-dollar industry. Millions of students compete in some form of esports, while tens of thousands compete through high school or collegiate esports teams. Student gamers generally gravitate toward STEM fields of study, and now colleges have begun developing academic programs in esports and related career paths like broadcasting, design, management, and more. While recruitment for traditional sports is relatively well established, recruitment for esports is relatively nascent. How can students interested in esports connect with colleges providing esports experiences or programs? How can colleges identify students for whom esports is an interest? Learn about this emerging field from peers in the college admission counseling field who are already engaged in this work.
