College Counseling for Students of Color
This course delves into challenges and opportunities in enrolling students of color in American higher education, emphasizing a vital role of K–12 and higher education partnership. From the dual perspectives of secondary and college counselors, participants will explore students’ intersectional identities and review historical enrollment trends, including those of minority serving institutions. Participants will also learn about legal rulings that impact the college admission process and discover strategies for engaging students of color. Finally, participants will be exposed to the significance of financial aid conversations and the role of community partnerships in supporting students of color on their college journey.
