Title: What College Admission Counseling Professionals Should Know About School Discipline in the US

Date: June 28, 2018

Time: 2:00 p.m. EDT

Cost: Free for NACAC members/$30 for nonmembers

Audience: Secondary school/college counselors, postsecondary admission professionals, community-based organizations, and independent educational consultants

Description: Disclosure of student disciplinary information during the college application process has always been a sensitive topic. Recently, a substantial body of research has revealed significant differences in the application of student disciplinary measures based on students’ race or ethnicity. Participants will receive a brief primer on recent research findings and policy initiatives, including the Obama administration’s “Beyond the Box” guidance, a practical perspective on the application of student discipline in the secondary school setting, and an overview of the provisions of NACAC’s SPGP: Code of Ethics and Professional Practice pertaining to student discipline. This webinar is intended as an important update for all involved in advising and recruiting students for college, as well as anyone involved in reading applications for college admission.
